A Liquid Hitherto Unknown is a screen print on glass in a limited edition of 6 with 4 Artist Proofs.

The print is a reproduction of a photograph of a discarded plastic cup found in the sand at the mouth of the Na’aman River in Acre. The site is where the Phoenician merchants camped for the night in Pliny the Elder’s origin myth of glass. The work traces the origins of glass and challenges hierarchies of treasure and trash between ancient and contemporary objects.

The design responds subtly to the work, in terms of materials, bringing an authority whilst maintaining a quiet sense of calm without over powering.

Each print in the set is housed in a bespoke packaging design. The box is custom made by hand with ebony black paper to contrast and compliment the print. A sandgrain embossing subtly references the subject of the work and along with a satin pull ribbon enhances the tactile experience for the user.
