Context
Fashion Redesign is a series of events, hosted by the Fashion and Textiles Institute at Falmouth University, exploring opportunities for fostering discussion and knowledge exchange with a dynamic agenda for skill sharing and exploring solutions. In this inaugural iteration the focus is on extending the life of garments.
Fashion Redesign Forum#1: Repair is a one-day symposium event with inspiring guest speakers, from specialist repair-focussed companies and organisations, and facilitated workshops led by repair specialists, giving participants the unique opportunity to darn socks, overdye their own garment, and screen print over T-shirts to give clothing a new lease of life. The aim is to establish a discursive exchange of ideas around the future of repair, sustainable design practices and waste reduction strategies.
John Boddy, Head of Fashion and Textiles Institute at Falmouth University:
Design Creative
The ambition was to achieve a clean and clear design with a playful orientation of the text, so that it becomes a functional design with a “poetic simplicity”. Conceptually, the design forces the reader to angle their head and engage with the text, causing a changed perspective or viewpoint, inline with the ambitions for the event series.
